About Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery is done to change the size, weight, firmness, and shape of the breasts, which can result in feeling more comfortable. Large, heavy breasts can cause back and neck pain, skin irritation, and posture problems.
Heavy breasts often times cause bra straps to leave painful indentations in a woman’s shoulders. Breast reduction surgery can eliminate these problems in most cases. Reducing breast size can also make physical activity more comfortable and provide more latitude with clothing options.
If the breasts consist of mostly fatty tissue and skin doesn’t need to be removed, liposuction alone may be enough. Otherwise, incisions will be needed to successfully remove excess tissue and skin. Sometimes, areola reduction will be performed as well, along with repositioning of the areola and nipple.
Women who have breast reduction surgery are extremely satisfied. It can make the breasts smaller, more comfortable and attractive. The results are considered permanent. However, breasts may become larger or their shape may change as a result of pregnancy, weight gain, or weight loss.
